Creating Habitats - 1:20 Amy and Jeff Thompson just wanted a piece of property where they could ride their bikes. But one fateful phone call to get some plants identified changed their trajectory. After learning the benefits of native plants, they've discovered a new love for their property and a wealth of natural habitat creation projects. A Shrinking Sundown - 11:08 One of the most important rookery islands on the Texas coast is in trouble. Sundown Island in Matagorda Bay is shrinking, with its shoreline eroding at an alarming rate. But efforts are underway to save the island, in honor of its past caretaker, helping the thousands of birds that nest there. Lone Star Land Steward: Byler Ranch - 20:31 The Byler Ranch, located near Uvalde, is a stunning ranch at the confluence of the Edwards Plateau and South Texas Brush Country. 1-D-1 Management Trailer
1-D-1 management refers to a land management practice in Texas, specifically related to the "1-D-1 Open Space Agricultural Valuation" where landowners can qualify for a lower property tax assessment by actively managing their land primarily for wildlife conservation, essentially allowing them to use their property for wildlife management while still receiving tax benefits similar to agricultural use, without the need to actively farm livestock or crops on the land; this requires submitting a wildlife management plan to the local appraisal district to demonstrate their conservation efforts 1-D-1 Wildlife Management Practices: Habitat Control: https://youtu.be/Pkfxe6cADxE Erosion Control: https://youtu.be/S1y2SbiDQbQ Predator Control: https://youtu.be/Uiax8WCIZjQ Supplemental Water: https://youtu.be/Sju86eewDuE Supplemental Food: https://youtu.be/73p7G1ODHLU Supplemental Shelters: https://youtu.be/832YWTUgTwo Census Wildlife Surveys: https://youtu.be/UyJJ9rv6wVk For more information, go to https://tpwd.texas.gov/wildlife/wildlife-diversity/ Join us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/texasparksandwildlife Join us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/texasparkswildlife/ #texas #outdoors #texasoutdoors #landmanagement #conservation #wildlife #wildlifeconservation #nature #biodiversity #texaswildlife
